Ownership and management

Monks Wood is managed by Natural England and has been the subject of extensive studies, there is a research station on the site.

Reserve web page

There is no individual website dedicated to Monks Wood, but there is helpful information on this website, including a very useful detailed map.

Wildlife to photograph

  • Dragonflies (broad-bodied chaser, four-spotted chaser, also hairy dragonfly)
  • Butterflies (black hairstreak, white admiral, silver-washed fritillary, speckled wood, meadow brown)

Facilities

  • car parks (3, small & rough)

    Accessibility

The paths are not surfaced, some are very uneven and slippery.

I do not think the wood is suitable for wheelchair access.

Location

Monks Wood is an ancient woodland near the village of Woodwalton, north of Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

There are three small car parks, the easiest to locate is at the junction of the B1090 and Bridge Street (from Woodwalton). Another is at the edge of the wood, north-westwards along the B1090.
